Advancing clean technology at the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week
‘Driving global energy transformation’ was the main theme of the 2018 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, which took place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) between 13th and 20th January. Three premiere events were featured, covering energy, water and waste, with the aim of promoting the long term strategic thinking that enables global business to plan for the future. The anchor event of the week was the World Future Energy Summit. With over 35,000 participants from 175 countries, this is one of the foremost annual global events committed to advancing future energy and clean technology.
The International Water Summit welcomed this year more than 150 exhibitors from more than 20 countries. The event focussed on smart technologies, currently being developed to address water challenges in arid regions. The aim was to connect participants to potential clients, offering investors opportunities for capital and growth. A third key event, the EcoWASTE exhibition and conference, aimed at advancing sustainable waste management and recycling, particularly across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
Several side events were also featured during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week. The Mobility Conference showcased the 2018 edition of the Electric Vehicle Road Trip Middle East, the longest electric vehicle road trip ever organized in the region. It covered over 2,000 km and coincided with the opening of a number of charging stations along the way. The Climate Innovation Exchange CLIX will provide a unique marketplace, connecting global level entrepreneurs and investors to enable climate solutions and funding. The Catalyst was presented as the first sustainability-focused startup accelerator in the region to develop patentable products and solutions.
