Water and Climate: African Ministers participate in launch of "Water for Africa" 

The International Conference on Water and Climate was held in Rabat on July 11 and 12, as part of the preparatory process for the COP22. The conference was organized by the Moroccan Ministry delegate in charge of Water, in partnership with the World Water Council and the French Ministry of Environment, Energy and the Sea. 

The goals of the Conference, entitled “Water Security for Climate Justice”, was to position water as a priority area in the COP22 climate change negotiations and to raise awareness among decision-makers on the impacts of climate change on water and its importance in the areas of mitigation, adaptation and resiliency.

The Conference has gathered Ministers from Africa, the Middle East, Europe, Asia and Latin America, alongside hundreds of participants from the diplomatic community, international development agencies, bilateral and multilateral donors, intergovernmental institutions, private sector companies, universities, international NGOs and UN agencies. 

During the conference 18 African Ministers participated in launching a  "Water for Africa" appeal.The conference also sought to mobilize political actors and stakeholders to continue their commitments made during COP21, as well as promoting the commitments made by members of civil society.
