Green Growth Climate Challenge launched in Morocco

Green Growth Climate Challenge launched in  Morocco

A climate change competition has been launched in Morocco, calling on universities and non-profit organizations, to generate new ideas on the use of clean and energy efficient technology.

The Green Growth Climate Challenge has received $400,000 of funding by the Bureau of Energy Resources of the U.S. State Department.  Local innovation and creative approaches to climate change mitigation and resiliency are critical elements in the fight against climate change.

The contest aims to help break down barriers between government, academia, and the private sector, encouraging the formulation of strong, climate friendly public policies, and support Morocco’s renewable energy goals.

The winners will receive small grants to implement their plans as well as mentorship services during the implementation phase. The winning team will be assisted to prepare an event designed to share best practices and lessons learned from this process on the margins of COP22 to be held in Marrakech, Morocco, in November 2016.  Elements of the challenge could include workshops featuring experts in renewable energy and energy efficient technologies, public policy, or business development.
