ClimaSouth Regional Seminar on "Climate Finance"
On 09 – 11 March 2016, ClimaSouth organized at the UfM premises in Barcelona a Climate Finance regional Workshop for the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries, as included in the ENP South region covered by ClimaSouth project. Colleagues of the African Development Bank also attended the workshop.
The seminar was chaired by ClimaSouth and speakers included representatives from several Financial Institutions such as the EIB, EBRD, CMI (WB), as well as the UNEP DTU and the European Commission.
The objective of the seminar was to scale up financing of climate-related projects in the region by:
- Exploring current financial instruments and discussing how to better use them
- Exploring new financial mechanisms, especially market-based measures
- Improve (or stimulate the identification of) projects/initiatives/NAMAs to be brought to the attention of (the participating) Financial Institutions
The workshop has been developed as a mix between more “classical” presentations from the side of organizers/financial institutions as well as practical sessions where the different proposals submitted by participants ahead of the workshop were presented and discussed both in small groups than in the plenary session.
A close follow up by ClimaSouth of the proposals and initiatives discussed during the workshop will assist countries in building capacities to present bankable proposals and in the path towards successfully obtain funding
